Located 260 km southeast of Colombo, the national park spans about 378 square miles and offers a mostly dry climate throughout the year. The park is divided into five blocks from which Block I is mainly covered by forests, with large grasslands featuring waterholes, tanks, lagoons, mangroves, and chena lands. Block II is similar in vegetation, and you find Blocks III, IV, and V are dominated by more extensive forests.
