Portuguese colonists first established it in the 16th century, then taken over by the Dutch and expanded. And eventually taken under British control later. The region saw strong competition among European powers like the English, French, Danish, Spanish, and Portuguese in the 1600s, for its beneficial location by the sea. Owning deep roots of history and diverse influences, we find Galle today, a prominent city in Sri Lanka with a unique blend of architectural styles and cultural impacts.
